revelations
I think I've figured out why blogs are so tough for me to consistently keep up with.
The nature of a blog is long-form content that's relatively well-thought out, (though not always). The nature of all other social media is short-form content that's intended to consume your consciousness and make you spent more time on it. It's not necessarily to say that I prefer short-form, I really don't, but rather that the function of short-form content services have always been easier for me to use actively because I have so many thoughts at such a constant pace and I struggle to categorise them into "important" / "want to share" / "just for me" etcetera. If I use short-form content socials, like Instagram or Twitter, I'm incentivised to share all those thoughts.
The way I use both Instagram and Twitter is that I will have a thought I feel I want to share, I'll open the app, post it (on my story or "to my page" as it were), and then I'll close it until I have something else I feel the need to share. I'm a social person by nature, but sometimes I want to just get things out of my head without starting a full-on conversation in the moment, especially given the fact that I'm so busy, etcetera etcetera.
I realised, though, reading this blog post, that the nature and format of a blog isn't really a "everybody should do it this specific way". I can use this blog in a similar way to how I do other social media, I just have to be a little bit more intentional and coherent when I do it.. and even if not, who cares, right?
TL;DR Rei has a lot to say, all of the time.
Big love :-)
